Where do you get the idea the D7000 sensor is out of date, or even lagging current status from? While it was one of the first "current generation" sensors, it hasn't aged at all and is still competitive with the Sony NEX 5N/7 for example (choosing NEX as opposed to SLT before people jump in about mirror losses). The E-M5 sensor at best keeps up with those, not exceeding them, which would be an even bigger challenge due to its inherent smaller size. In sensor technology, Nikon and Sony are approximate equals since they share so much between them even if they never acknowledge it openly.

Most of the major players are practically equals in sensor technology, with minor differences between them that most people wont even notice without internet forum amplification effects. Only Canon are lagging a bit but it doesn't seem to be affecting their sales at all. Only Fuji might be ahead of the curve with their novel colour filter arrangement, but that will remain a niche.

I think the best APS-C sensor in a Nikon DSLR right now sits in the D3200. Similar noise as D7000, but many more pixels. I think the average D7000 shooter would appreciate the 24MP more than a D3200 shooter.

Considering the E-M5, I didn't mean to say it is superior than the D7000. Just the sheer fact that it is about able to keep up with the D7000 shows in my view that the D7000 is "last years colour". The APS-C should have less noise or more resolution. Considering the NEX-7, I think Klaus explained pretty well that something went wrong with that (optically). Will be interesting to see where the NEX-6 is going to be.

Having written this, I still think the D7000 is a good camera and as we discussed there is little competition to it right now, since the outhers are also slow to update.

Thanks for writing. J.
