Using dollars (can't find the euro MSRPs right now)...
Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f2.8: MSRP: $1890
Nikon AF-S 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 VR : MSRP: $600
Difference Nikon: $1290 (taxed)
Difference Canon: €1182 (not taxed)

Yes, the 24-70mm f4 L IS USM is more expensive than the 24-105mm f4 L IS USM. For that you get better optics (according to MTFs and Canon) and hybrid IS + 0.7x macro mode.
One can choose.
