Thanks... That transition is the first thing I was attracted, it gets even better at base ISO settings.
Regarding D800 vs. D600, I would wait for a while for D600 results & reviews before drawing conclusions... I mean specs are on paper but they're not enough for a healthy decision. I did not have time to hear & see about the D600 and I had to decide on the D800 for the trip. And I'm very happy with my new toy. One more thing about the 36mp resolution: the good thing is not really the detail I see in 100% views, because in the end I downscale to 1800x1200 and convert to jpeg. But the cropping advantage is really something. I could use my 90mm lens for landscapes and then after a considerable cropping you still have an image with enough higher resolution.
