A shame for an f1.4 lens, such background bokeh... Not an optimal design then. Its not so small little brother (30mm f1.4 EX DC) has much nicer background bokeh, but is not as sharp.

Great lens for those who like to stop down a lot, but then why lug around an f1.4 lens? A bit of a let down.

I don't think that the background bokeh is bad (based on the first link). The out-of-focus highlights are quite smooth with only a bit of outlining. The blur is pretty decent for a 35mm lens as well.

You may argue that a 85mm f/1.2 is better but then this is about apples vs oranges.
