Quote:Please show us that Oly and Pana losses are due to their camera divisions to validate your point.I agree with you, ever since Olympus joined the MFT parade, they've been playing on their retro mark up. Much too expensive indeed. The E-P1 was a total rip off for instance. The "metal" body was just a tin foil wrapped around a plastic cage. This thing will get dented instantly.
Anyhow nice bargain! The GX1 was initially above 600 Euros... Pana suffers from a weird model policy and from the sluggish introduction of the m43 Sony sensor. A G3 costs 300 Euro these days, the GF3 is on offer at 200 Euro. On the other hand, Olympus wants 700 Euro for the E-PL5 (with kit lens) and 900 Euros for an E-M5 (body only).
The OMD is also too expensive but it must not be overlooked that they went for a much serious approach here. The thing IS splashproof (tested in shower, extensively) and has a really tight frame assembly, an undeniably novel & complex IBIS, tilt panel, & integrated EVF. Even @ 200€ more (launch price, body only) than the E-P1, I think they must have reduced their margin on the OM-D quite a bit.
