I would consider this to be a good thing though. In terms of lenses, bigger tends to be better.
Yeah it's sure a big and heavy lens.
However, they actually give users a choice: either the big, high quality and fast one and a small, slow pancake alternative.
If you want optimum IQ and don't mind the bulk go for the former. If you don't need the speed or want to travel light, you get the latter.
Very smart decision IMO.
