Well, the weight of the lenses makes a 5D more heavy, for a comparable focal length.
However, do take into consideration that an equivalent lens to an f2.8 lens on APS-C is an f4 lens on full frame (or to be more precise: f2.8 x 1.6 = ~f4.5).
The Canon EF 24-205mm f4 L IS USM comes pretty close to being equal to the EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM. In areas it actually surpasses it (for instance focal range).
Of course, a standard zoom is NOT the kind of lens to base a sensor format on. In my opinion.
