D800 live view problem sounds as if the live view would work okay, but problems appear in several serial numbers. I would not call it an issue or a problem (as a failure), I would call it simply bad engineering at worst. It is not specific to D800, other Nikon models also have poor LV capabilities. They fixed parts of it in the newer models. Manual focus with D810 (and maybe a loupe) is great, but the trouble is, it can be set up to show DoF and that makes it impossible to focus in low light and closed aperture. As far as I'm concerned, I could not discover a logical concept to set upt the LV the one or other way, everything appears to be hidden in a marathon menu.
Don't understand, why they don't use bright view and couple the DoF control with the button like when using the OVF. But maybe I haven't figured out how to do so. Of course, if LV has to amplifiy to the max, noise becomes a problem. Haven't used other cameras working fine under these conditions.
