I think they are more than merely an outsourced manufacturer.

Else the marketing stuff on the cosina webpage will have no that much sense. On top of that, I still have the suspicion about who in reality did push to have those Z- series lenses, "zee germans" or mr. Kobayashi Hirofumi.

Even so - some of the designs aren't exactly new and originate definitely in a Zeiss design. It may well be that Cosina pushed it in order to utilize their manufacturing plants. However, is there something bad about this ? Seems to be a win-win to me.
