The lens alone from Fuji or Nikon would be more expensive.
You didn't mention the most interesting part... That camera is built by Leica in Germany. The camera is like a typ 240. The Typ 240 body only costs... $6000 body only. So it is not the "made in Germany" aspect that makes Leica price their products partly out of the marketplace.
You get a typ 240 limited production model (500 will be made) with Zenit touches and a lens with a negative price. A no brainer for those who would like such a camera.
I didn't mention what? Made by Leica ist something different than designed by Leica and made somewhere in East Asia
If you say that's a 240 type, you look at the outside (designed by Krasnogorsk). It would be interesting to tear them down. Also, I would not use a camera which follows the same design principles as Lada or a T90 tank: Edgy, close to no curves and from Logo to leather just ugly.
The article you linked to clearly states:
"In the latest sign that this ain't your Großvater's Leica, it is currently assembling the 24MP full-frame Zenit M rangefinder alongside the M10 at its Wetzlar plant in Germany. "
and:
"As far as division of labor is concerned, I'm told that Zenit was responsible for the external design, and everything else is done at Wetzlar."
and:
"At the heart of the Zenit M is the same full-frame 24MP CMOS sensor as - you guessed it - the Leica Typ 240."
So yeah, internals designed by Leica. The look of the body "designed by Zenit". The camera internals are Typ 240. The camera is produced by Leica in Germany, not in Asia.
