That has been true for sure.

Nikon, however, kept the prices of their (admittedly less advanced) PF lenses comparatively low, so maybe Canon will be using Nikon's playbook this time?
There have been a number of new DO element patents from Canon the last few years.

We will have to see what will materialise, and which sense these lenses will make.
