I've briefly used one with a PhaseOne P65+... it's a nice camera with cool features like automatically switching between leaf and focal plane shutters depending on the selected shutter speed etc. Very easy to use... the backs need a bit of getting used to but easy to figure out within 2-3 minutes.

The AF question is a bit hard to answer... "relatively fast" as compared to which camera in what shooting conditions? Medium format systems have fairly wide lenses or long and slow lenses. While these may have done the job in the past, they're no match for today's 35mm DSLRs.

So what exactly did you want to shoot with one? If you tell me, I can give you a better answer.
