Forums > Back > Canon cosplays Sigma with the new 16-28/2.8 lens
#3
That was an interesting move by Canon. It feels like a Sigma-style budget play, but with the bonus of IS. At $1150 and no red ring, it's targeted at a different crowd than the L-series users. The collapsible design is convenient, but I wonder about long-term durability and optical quality wide open at f/2.8. For landscape or architecture, I’d still lean toward the 14-35 for the flexibility and proven L-series performance. But for video shooters or event work needing that fast aperture in a lightweight form, this might fill a niche.
