Well, if funds allow, I would go for the AF-S 1.4 Nikkor, it's a very nice lens indeed, although for portraiture I still prefer the 85mm lens (perspective, bokeh, lower distortions) which in the 1.8 version is roughly the same price as the 50mm AF-S .. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
