Yep, looks very promising. Can't wait to try it out myself. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a release date for the F-mount version, yet.
I played a bit with the sample lenses on display at photokina (all EF mount). They had rather stiff zoom rings, too stiff for my taste (at least as long as we're talking about action photography, like indoor sports). But they were said to be pre-production units not completely matching the final production units. Hopefully Tamron has worked on this issue a little since then.
I also played with the new 90/2.8 VC a bit. Given it's a macro lens, it was focusing _very_ fast. Quite impressive.
