Canon EOS 1D X firmware update for f8 AF
#6
It's more due to the individual points than the overall system, who knows how they perform at f/8? My general attempts with the tape trick, even fixed on centre point only, generally resulted in lots of seeking and little locking, so to me was worse than using MF in live view (fun at 800mm hand held!). It doesn't matter what they do with all the other points on the 5D3 system, since its just the centre point (possibly with assist) that is now workable at f/8. I think we have to assume they designed it with f/8 in mind, but did not release it initially due to some firmware issues they have now resolved.
