Those 30.000+ citizens are generally healthy and the area is no wasteland either.

But then it is probably prohibited to mention this "anomaly".

Better don't consider to take an intercontinental flight across the polar regions if you're scared.



Did you know that the worldwide coal-based energy plants blast 10.000 tons of Uranium and 25.000 tons of Thorium into the air because the elements are simply part of the geology. Coal mining kills 6000 workers per year, BTW.



And to put all this further into perspective - there are 3000 fatalities in traffic accidents ... per day (or roughly a million per year).



Radiation will be fatal at some stage but it is debatable whether the world would be a safer place without nuclear energy. Living in an industrialized world is simply not free of costs.
