next PZ lens test report: Zeiss ZA 85mm f/1.4
#8
Well the text didn't really spell out the issue with phase focus though I have to admit it is obvious once you mentioned it.

Looking at the alpha 700 review I'm not so sure that it is obvious the issue at f1.4 is the nex sensor vs max resolution. yes it is true the drop off between f1.4 and f2 is greater; the peak is not so far off. The problem is that you cannot really compare the two peaks (different camera) but it still leaves open the question; given the alpha 700 review was the shape restricted by the sensor or the lens. I.e, if he were to test on slt 77 or next 5n would you see a curve similar to the nex 7 or alpha 700.

I don't see sample images with the 85f1.4 on the nex 7 but one indication of a sensor issue would be significant smearing in the edges.

Btw as klaus expected the cv 15 and biogen 21 show signifcant smearing on the pro-1; though unlike the nex 7 no colour shift.

Both is in the text. Look at the A700 performance with this lens, it is very clear the f1.4 performance is somewhat hindered. For the rest, the resolution bar differences are more or less consistent with the resolution jump, just not the edge performance at f1.4.

Also, the advantage of the EA-LA2 is clear from the text: it allows AF (phase detection AF at that).
