Strange story alltogehter.
Is that stopped down? Did you check for field curvature (question out of interest not to know it better)? Is this some adapter fun? In the end with an adapter you have two bayonnettes and they can introduce a lot of fun (tilt, shift, ...)?
What are absolut numbers like? Perhaps the 2000-something you measured on the alpha a700 is, what the lens can do. In the end, this is not a macro lens disgned for reporductions of flat field (e.g. small print in a newspaper). Looking at your FF testing, there the Zeiss definitely give in at the boarders. If I get the numbers right, the 3000 measured on FF corespond to about 2000 on APS-C. You still have an alpha to confirm that the lens is still ok and hasn't decayed in any way? Might be an idea to do a quick sanity check on the lens.
