   I don't know many medium format bodies that give sufficient reach per mm FL, let alone the lenses to go with them, a 500mm on MF would need a to be an 850mm there.......

The "affordable" "medium format" digital cameras only have a 0.79x crop factor... So that means you only need a 633mm lens as 500mm FF equivalent. Something like a Pentax SMC A* 645 600mm F5.6 ED. Discontinued, no AF and no IS. Yeah, Toni is onto something.  :blink:
