If you plan to point and shoot, buy a point and shoot. A Canon S95 would more than suffice for causal photos of friends and family. And you can put it in your pocket too.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think this is very good advice.
Could you tell us what lenses you had? The Nikon D300 has more AF collimateurs than both the 7D and the 60D and, disregarding the video, is every bit as capable as the 2 Canon cameras you mention. Since you have sold and excellent camera, I'd advice you to buy a Canon S95 or G12.
