Gin is also a great cleaning agent Klaus.......surely they serve it on board! 
OT......actually in my sailing days, my compass developed an air bubble from evaporation, impossible to find what fluid to use.......
.......emptied all the fluid and refilled with Gin.......worked fine and stayed clear for years!
.........of course I had to celebrate with a little tipple.....I was armed with tonic.....
....and what a tonic it was!!
