I am using my 18-35mm on a D700.

I am not claiming this lens to be of pro quality on either image or build, but it is clearly of Nikkor quality, and used properly almost up there among the best.



I honestly believe you must have a bad sample, because the MTF results in your test are simply appaling, and the worst I have ever seen!



Here is a picture I took in Rome earlier this year:

Well, the image is scaled down to 4 megapixels, I'm afraid that's a bit too little resolution to prove anything.



Seriously, though, if you live anywhere in the European union I will happily cover all shipping costs and measure your lens.

Judging from the name, and the little flag below the linked image, aalesund comes from Norway, which is almost in the European Union, but not quite <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Did you correct for CA and such (vignetting, distortion), by any chance? And this image is stopped down to what, exactly?



If you want to prove it does a lot better, post an uncorrected image, and not closed down (as that will illustrate its better corner performance best).

I didn't spot the flag below the image. Norway makes things a bit difficult though (due to customs).



However: I'll gladly test a supposedly much better sample of the lens anytime if anyone wants to provide one.

Maybe the point of this discussion is that for most people there is no difference between a 5* lens and a 1* lens <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
