Yes, very nice machine :-)

BTW, Canon finally lowering megapixels, lol :-)) Note that as the Nikon D300 model "inspired" the 7D, so did D3S "inspired" this 1Dx... Anyway, good times for customers :-).

Very well done, Canon. I guess the high ISO performance will be spectacular.

So, it seems in the high rice range the MP battle is over. I wonder if Nikon will combine both series into a single D4, too. And if the MP race continues in the lower, "Studio" segment (D800/5D III).

It is more than clear that EOS 1Dx sensor is a 100% reflection of the target group (pros) who posted a clear message: we don´t want more but better pixels. All my thumbs up for that!

You are right about the "prosumer" segment - I´m afraid the megapixelization will take place here :-(, damn it. I just pray there will be space for a FF sensor body with low pixels with excellent high-iso performance too....

looks very nice indeed... For sports photography (among other types), one of the best choices I guess...

But I'm afraid 5D-III will unlikely have less than 21mp (unfortunately)... In my opinion, the higher resolution than the existing 21mp is the last thing to improve 5D2. If the new 5D3 would have the 18mp sensor like this one, plus the 100.000 pixel RGB metering and new Digic 5+, I would seriously think for a migration (of course, after waiting for a future D800).

You probably mean if the new 5D3 would have the 18mp sensor like this one + D800 would have the 36mpx+ sensor....

I´m afraid the migration (for an amateur) is almost impossible once you have several pro lenses with thousand EURos value.

Well, personally I chose Nikon system because they seemed to be going the "less megapixels-better high-iso performance" way. It would be very frustrating for me if the next generation of Nikon semipro/pro cams took a directly opposite way! But it is sheer speculation for the moment....

p.s. the more I read about 1Dx, the more I think Canon is not rebelling against the MP race with this model, they are simply reacting to Nikon eating their lunch with PJs and sports-shooters with the D3 and then D3s for the past 2 years...

Exactly... (assuming that D800 will be more expensive)...

OK, I admit that it wouldn't be an easy decision. It's for sure that my beautiful Nikon lenses would be sold for funny prices... But if Canon goes in that way, and Nikon gets crazy about 35mp FX sensors with higher price tags (unreachable for amateur FX users), I think this alternative could be on the table. Here in my country, one can find variety of MF lenses to fit to Canon EOS mount (compared to Nikon) without infinity focus problem. Also the same goes for the modern AF lenses... The point is, I don't know Canon bodies in deeper detail to make such bold decisions... For example, recently I've read somewhere that 5D2 cannot do spot metering for the selected AF point except for the center point. I'm not sure if it is true or not, but this only can help one to decide to migrate or not... So devil is in the details...

While a 1D series is not something I generally need or want, there are many interesting features in it I hope will make it down to future 5D/7D or even a new single digit-D bodies. I got the impression it is an attack on the D3s space like the 7D attacked the D300. Having said that, for me I do want and need more MPs, especially so from a bigger sensor. So I'll have to wait and see what else they bring out. There's definitely room for another model at higher resolution, even if not 1D level that would be a plus for me as I prefer smaller bodies.

I believe that the new 5D3 will have more resolution than 21mp, but not sure if it would have better IQ than this one...<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I think 1D-X is a nice body indeed for sports photography...

I hope D700 won't die (or merge into D4)... If I were Nikon (<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Huh' /> <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />), I would use an FX sensor with less than 20mp resolution including the spectacular high ISO performance, manage a higher fps and put a price tag of 3.500$ on it to compete with 1D-X... And that new spoilt child D4 or the upcoming toplofty 5D3 can have whatever they like (36mp or even more)...

Oh, did I forget to mention that the 3.500$ Nikon camera should be called "D800"...<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />
