I'm probably elected to go to Japan next month.

Can anybody recommend a reliable and big photo equipment store either in Tokyo or Shin-Yokohama ?

Concrete recommendations are welcome - I will not have the time to browse through the "electronics districts".

Thx!

Just to mention ...

Those 30.000+ citizens are generally healthy and the area is no wasteland either.

But then it is probably prohibited to mention this "anomaly".

And I hope that you're not in the airline industry ...

Better don't consider to take an intercontinental flight across the polar regions if you're scared.

Did you know that the worldwide coal-based energy plants blast 10.000 tons of Uranium and 25.000 tons of Thorium into the air because the elements are simply part of the geology. Coal mining kills 6000 workers per year, BTW.

And to put all this further into perspective - there are 3000 fatalities in traffic accidents ... per day (or roughly a million per year).

Radiation will be fatal at some stage but it is debatable whether the world would be a safer place without nuclear energy. Living in an industrialized world is simply not free of costs.

I have a somewhat distant friend in Tokyo area who has mentioned Yodobashi quite a bit. Looks like they have a store near Yokohama station. Shin-Yokohama appears to be a few stops away.

I don't think any trip to Tokyo-area is complete without a visit to Akihabara anyway (the electronic district), and they have a store there too.

Well, regarding the airline industry, I'm not that sure the radiation exposure risk is conclusive. That BBC article talk about several studies without citing any references. On the other hand, I found this recent paper on this exact matter:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22395103

According to their conclusion there is no real evidence.

How in the world did we get from "shopping in Japan" to "the safety of the airline industry" and the world in general? Beats me[Image: huh.gif]

Try Yodobashi Camera near the Shinjuku subway station in Tokyo.

Prices are disappointing but they have a lot of stuff on display for testing.

You can also visit the Sony building in Gynza
