#1
A little bit earlier than I have expected: http://www.nikon.com/news/2012/0419_lens_03.htm

The lens looks beautiful. I am looking forward to see the test result at PZ <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

The suggested retail price $699.95 also sounds good, better than many people have expected ($900 or more).

Samples on the Nikon site look good... Nice bokeh...

A bit higher magnification ratio would be very wellcome...

Frankly, with the 50 f1.4G and 85 f1.8G it makes up for a really good and affordable trio for my D700, which will be staying long term in my bag. I intend to change my 35 f2 and 85 f1.8D for these new f 1.8G lenses. There is no huge cost difference and the new technology is very nice.

Kinda long, its design, for an 28mm lens. I do not find the current generation of Nikon lenses "good looking".

About the looks, I mean that for instance the old 28mm f1.4 looks a LOT more handsome and purposeful than the new 28mm f1.8 AF-S:

But price and optics wise, it seems like a very nice one! And looks do not matter, so it seems to be a winner!

Nikon now has an updated mid-range prime trio: 28/1.8G, 50/1.8G, 85/1.8G... Very appealing to dinosaurs like me. I'm "almost" thinking of adding that with a D800 as my 2nd gear.

Yes, not as handsome as the old 28mm f1.4D. However, to my eyes, it looks much better than the (35mm, 50mm, 85mm)-1.8g and the (35mm, 50mm)-1.4g (about looks). I especially like the very wide focus ring.

Regarding the length, it seems that the Zeiss 28mm f2 is even longer.
