Forums > Back > Next PZ lens test report: Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH
#1
Hi Zoners

It's time for a new mFT lens review - Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH

Please note that we upgraded our test system! Micro Four Thirds lens tests have switched from the Panasonic GF1 (12MP) to the Panasonic GX1 (16MP). The new resolution results in higher MTF figures and the values are not comparable among each other.

Have fun <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Not super impressive for a 50mm f2.8 equivalent... especially the distortion is too high. But the price is ok, considering the price of a FF body making an equivalent FF combination much dearer.

I was about to make the same point: the price is not that much higher than say the Sigma 50/1.4 (if you keep the camera cost in mind) and the performance seems MUCH more even. Probably better contrast at wide apertures than the old Canon 50/1.4 as well.

If I had been a ยต4/3 user I would have bought this lens without much hesitation (as well as the 45/1.8 and probably the 12/2)

Grrrr......... So how could we compare the 20/1.7 to the 25/1.4? Now you must test the 20/1.7 on the GX1.

Are you going to test the voigtlander 25f0.95 on 16mp body? It would be interesting comparison; though it is twice as expensive.

I would love to... however, I guess there are some lenses with higher priority out there <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Lensrentals recently tested some mft lenses and 20 fared better than 25. Waiting for PZ re-test of 20/1.7! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> It seems that 20 vs 25 is a hot topic, a lot of folks jump back and forth between these 2 lenses.

I think these two lenses are quite different in spec: speed, focal length, size and price. Both are know to be good. Decide on the spec I would say.
