A little confused on these. What's the point of it over a cameras like the Canon t1/2i? The Sony's don't look much smaller or lighter. Now, if I already had a Sony system it might make more sense.

Plus, the pen/lumix makes more sense to me as a vacation and easy to carry system. I had toyed with this option before picking up a T1i. In the end I decided it wasn't worth the cost.

e.g.

1. you can do fine-focusing in the viewfinder based on a crop enlargement

2. live histogram in the viewfinder (I hope it's implemented)

3. no mirror slap anymore

4. faster AF tracking (in theory)

5. bright viewfinder with 100% coverage

But I have also to say that Japan market direction proved not to be so significant when it comes to the rest of the world
While it is true the Japanese have strange tastes in general, their DSLR market direction is not entirely a poor representation of the rest of the world. If you look into BCNRanking data and compare their annual market share results against those posted by the respective manufactures, you'll be quite surprised by the similarity.

Anyway, I love the A55 concept: it puts the Nikon D3100 + Canon T2i/7D and the upcoming D7000 to shame. I suspect the coming Canon 2000D & 60D are going to follow the usual Canikon rehash practice.

Actually I owned the EOS RT for a while ... and was thrilled!

Regarding my vacation - I reckon my girl-friend will take the NEX + 18-200.

I still have the Zeiss 16-80 in my stock here as well as the 70-300G.

at last, a camera for my 70300[Image: cool.gif]

I remember RT users complaining about mirror dust visible on the images ... Seems it was someone else than you (I remembered that you had one).

Was wondering whether you still have the Zeiss. Considering that your partner brings a 200mm lens, I would be very tempted to leave the 70-300G where it is.<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

So they're here - what do you think ?
I think that the A55 is the most interesting camera than all the other MILC cameras thus far.

1. It has the form factor of a small DSLR and not the form factor of a P&S (something I prefer).

2. It has AS (something I find very useful).

3. It has an APS sensor.

4. It has an articulating screen.

5. It has a built in EVF.

6. It has useful AF in video.

Personally, I find it a perfect blend. I only wish there were small, fast lenses with SSM to attach to it. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I really doubt it - according to the reports, DSLR sales have increased nearly 35% over the last year. Has anyone compared how EVILs are doing against point-and-shoot cameras? Somehow I think EVILs will simply form a separate, third segment, mostly eating away market share currently owned by P&S cameras and some entry-level DSLRs. It's really difficult to believe that EVILs would affect any DSLRs above mid-level (say, D90 and up).
It may well be they sold more DSLRs. However, the EVILs did still manage to gain a substantial amount of market share - thus they've a much stronger momentum. Sony, Oly and Panasonic sold far more EVILs than DSLRs already (ok, Pana doesn't count here). I think it's not unrealistic to expect that Nikon and Pentax DSLRs will shift a substantial amount of MARKET SHARE to their micro-systems.

4. faster AF tracking (in theory)
If a preview on another site is accurate, it is still only theory. Maybe if/when Sony do a higher model it will have better AF. Also it appears the viewfinder starts giving you a slideshow in continuous shooting, making panning/tracking more difficult. Of course these are only implementation issues, and not fundamental flaws in the concept. So next generation versions of this type will hopefully be better.

I think it is a great move if the EVF indeed holds up to its promise. Pellicle cameras shouldn't be a problem anymore considering the sensitivity of sensors; with film that was a bit more of a problem. Now imagine Canon's new (unfortunately non-production as of yet) 120 MP sensor coupled to this, allowing for the selection of a specific part of the image only, still at very high resolution <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':o' />

As it appears Sony has finally solved their high iso noise problems, these two little cameras may well prove to be bestsellers indeed.

Kind regards, Wim
Gear: Canon EOS R with 3 primes and 2 zooms, 4 EF-R adapters, Canon EOS 5 (analog), 9 Canon EF primes, a lone Canon EF zoom, 2 extenders, 2 converters, tubes; Olympus OM-D 1 Mk II & Pen F with 12 primes, 6 zooms, and 3 Metabones EF-MFT adapters ....

Yea given the poor reviews on Sony cameras these look like to be quite an improvement. I wasn't all that flattered by dpreview sample images but they didn't use the best lenses. Still they do hold some promise. Not sure how they compare to the G2/Gh1. When I played with the GH1 I thought it would be great for still shots.
