I have the Loxia 50 and I love it.

Here is a small field report that I wrote:

Looks good.  Both the lens and the new site.

Thanks

I added a follow-up article comparing with the Contax G 45/2 & Sony 55/1.8

I don't actually like how that Loxia 50mm f2 renders there. The glass images is particularly unattractive, not sure why I don't like the background bokeh much much, can't really put my finger on it? Stopped down it looks fine of course (and foreground rendering too). I do have way worse rendering lenses like the Nikkor 50mm f2.

Which lens do you prefer, the Sony/Zeiss 55mm f1.8, or the Zeiss Loxia 55mm f2?

I agree the bokeh is not perfect but it's above average for a 50mm.

The 55/1.8 is slightly better optically than the 50/2 but I prefer the ergonomics & size of the Loxia 50/2.

An indirect reason that I don't like the 55 now is the crappy native AF of the A7R.

For the product shots of these reviews, I used both the 55 with a small extension tube and a Minolta 50/3.5 macro on the LA-EA4 adapter. The cheap AF sensor (taken from the A65) of the LA-EA4 is way better in low light.

Nice follow up article.

background blur did a similar article, except comparing the Mitakon T0.95:

Not dissimilar conclusion to yours.

Personally, the FE 55mm seems stunning optically to me.  However, I love manual focus and the Loxia 50mm seems like a dream to handle.  Lots of good choices.
