Old lens:

New lens:

It has gotten bigger and heavier, with 14 elements in 11 groups (was 11 elements in 9 groups), and with a "BR" element. Will be interesting to learn what that stands for.

BR probably stands for "bragging rights" and is related to having the 1.4/35 with the sharpest corners at f/1.4 in one's lens lineup, or the heaviest, or the most expensive?   Big Grin

actually, supposedly stands for blue spectrum refractive optics.   not sure how that is supposed to work, refraction in only the blue spectrum would hardly work for a lens. but something must be special about this lens regarding blue refraction properties.

I shall ignore every lens with a filter thread of less than M 100  or going lightweight with not more than 1.5 kg. Flimsy things, blowing away by wind... 50 MP already are medium format, aren't they? So I'm expecting fat ass glass (what sense would make fat glass ass? See?). Good they leaned towards Sigma design. At least, Canon shows some kind of good taste.
