If he (and they) doesn't have to make bloodsucking shareholders happy, "more expensive" plays a less major role.

 

To me it was much more impressive, that he sits in midst his engineers. In Japan! Kind of a very different hierarchy.  :blink:

I hope that someday it'll dawn upon them that weather sealing should not be exclusive to the S series... (though Roger Cicala's recent disassembly of the Sigma 35/1.4 shows that there is at least a little sealing in that lens, which is mildly reassuring.

Roger's take always was and is that a rubber ring round the mount is not a seal. I understand that and am using my Sigmas in most available weather conditions anyway 

 

However, so far I had one situation I would have been happy for this rubber ring. Shooting stars at night and standing close the harbour entrance of Porthgain one particular cocky wave splashed me from top  :o I shielded the camera as fast as possible, but after that there were 2 or 3 tiny water drops on the mount - not inside the camera. If someone thinks, this is proof enough for the need of that rubber cover, I can give him the coordinates of the harbour. At full moon and with some wind it should be possible to get such a wave  ^_^ The only weatherproof camera system I know of are Olympus and some Pentax lens/body combinations.
