The A77 together with the 500reflex should be enough for shooting moon craters <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

This will most probably evoke rumours on the Nikon side also. It would please the D300 owners waiting for upgrading to a possible D300x (or a D400)... A D300x with 24MP would definetly erase the question marks in minds for the ones who are checking the D7000 and questioning the successor of D300...

OTOH, I'm quite curious about the tonal range, AF and viewfinder performance of this new SLT technology. Sony definitely wants to change the essentials in the market to be able to compete with Canon & Nikon. And if this new translucent mirror technology don't fail them, I believe they will have their shares.

Regards,

Serkan

We already (almost) know that the D800 will appear soon after the new year, very likely with the D3X sensor and other goodies. Many think the D300x will appear before Xmas with a sensor that can not be smaller than the D7000, IOW has to be bigger (in terms of MP). Nikon has the advantage over Canon in all the DSLR market segments at present, with the D3100, D7000, D300s and the D3X. Trust them to want to keep it. Kindly Vieux Loup

I have to disagree, the Canon 550D is a much better camera than the D3100 (although it is a bit more expensive. I do not see either how the D7000 has "the advantage" over the Canon 60D either. Nor do I see how the D300s has "the advantage" over the D300s. And the Canon 1Ds mk III is an awesome camera too.

I agree that of course Nikon will come with a successor of the D300s, and it might just get a different sensor from the D7000.

If you believe Thom Hogan, then Nikon are overcommitted at their factories - much of the range is in shortage. This suggests a longer wait for new cameras. No breath holding?

We (faithful) hope Thom's wrong, of course....

You may be right and let us not refight the old war <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> but I see the D7000 as clearly superior to the D60, as do most reviewers that I have read. The build quality and the auto AF for one, with the new in camera software seem to lead most know'ers to the Nikon side with respect to IQ and overall quality. I have not held either in my hand <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />! As far as the D300x goes, with a different sensor, say 18 or 24MP, with the Expeed 2 and auto AF, it will be a formidable camera and something I would love to have.

Of course the 1D MK III is formidable, but the D3X is supposed to be the king of the hill. Anyways again, I don't feel qualified to comment in detail on either.

With respect to Tom Hogan's opinion, Nikon will of course free up capacity if they discontinue the D700 and D300s and, let us not forget the spare capacity they created when they laid off heavily some time ago. The Nikon passion lives on, but most of all; take some good photos today with what you own now! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> Kindly Vieux Loup

oops, off topic, off topic alert -

please . . . dear sony's at the top of this page and dare i suggest that an existing 24mp sony pointing in the right direction and with um <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> auto focus cz's, super sigma's, and, ahem, a very fishy eye and (whisper) a 500reflex does occasionally produce at least one or maybe two full frame pictures that may or may not rival those obviously more illustrious and favourite brands . . . whoever they are -

and i suppose maybe when dear sony does manage to crowd even more photo sites into an ever smaller space other companies might be interested too, you never know . . .
