Really nice <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Best I can manage are light pollution, the trees grown by my neighbours, light pollution and trails from planes flying overhead. Did I mention light pollution?

What are those lights in the sky? And why in Chili? And why so many? I never see those here... Can people over there still sleep at night?

I shouldn't complain too much. I submitted #5 here where I managed to largely process out the orange glow. But it looks out of place compared to the others in that collection... tried filters too but I'm rapidly reaching the conclusion if I'm going to get serious, I'm going to have to find a not too distant dark spot.

This is just plain awesome <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

I'm new at photography, using Canon T2i with 18-55 3.8 at the moment. Going to buy another non-kit lens soon.

Can someone please provide me with links to tutorials on how to do 360 degree shots of a starry sky.

Thank you very much.

Lens: Circular fisheye = image circle diameter smaller than sensor's shorter rectangle side. For Canon APS-C there are:

- Sigma 4.5 mm/f2.8

- Coastal Optics 4.88 mm/f5.2

- Sunex Superfisheye

Sturdy tripod, aim camera straight at zenit, ISO up and make picture. And then another one. And another one.

Tutorials? There are lots of them. Just google for "Wide field astronomy photograph" and add "tutorial", "how-to" etc. pp.

You may want to start with the kit lens and get a grip on the workflow. Don't underestimate the last part, it will take some time to get used to it. Postprocessing is essential!

EDIT: Another thing not to underestimate is light pollution. Having an airport

as neighbour ... <sigh>.

Ciao, Walter
