So basically.... get a Canon 550D. It is better in just about every area, will have some smaller light lenses available for it, and it is not "too small" like the Sony's are.

No Rebel for me. I tried several and found them cumbersome to use. I wanted the Sony for it's high ISO, EVF, AS, video AF, DSLR form factor and flip screen but regretfully I must give it all up. The 550D has everything the D7000 has from that list, and lacks everything the D7000 does not have from that list. But the 550D is more compact.

The 550D has the high ISO performance. It has a OVF that is superior to the Sony's EVF. It has video AF (not sure why someone would want that), DSLR form factor. Just no "flip screen" (for that you have to look at some Olympus models and Canon EOS 60D).



I do not see much to like about the Sony A55 and A33.

Because you can have stabilization with any lens. For many years I've been buying lenses when one of the prime advantages I looked for was stabilization. If you have SSS (or something alike <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />) you can always have it.

I know you can always have it... but thing is, it just is not always needed or useful. It would be just about last on *my* list of things to look for. Two lenses with IS would be enough for me: A longer tele with IS and a standard zoom with IS. Primes would get used by me for their wide apertures, not for IS need.



Same with video with AF... It is a specs list thing, not a thing to use. If you want AF with video, you better have a big DOF, else it will drive the viewer of the video crazy. But for big DOF video, just get a camcorder. DSLR video is for the creative, not the homevideo shooter.

But that's the beauty of it. You can have both wide aperture and SSS. It's true that you may not need it much but it's there when you do. Kinda like ABS. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

When I bought the 7D I wished for a slightly cheaper model without video. "What do I need video for" I thought, "I like stills, not video". But to my surprise, I found myself shooting video from time to time (certainly not enough to justify buying another camcorder).
