I can't say how well it will sell, but in Japan the preorders are higher than the initial estimate.

This Tokina lens will soon be available for Nikon F-mount and Canon EOS mount too, hopefully with a more realistic price, else it has little chance of selling much. But then again, Tokina never really seems to want to sell a lot of lenses.

Which one? The Tokina, branded with Pentax? Or the Tokina as a collaboration with Pentax? And why is that sidenote a problem? If the lens is great (and there's not much doubt about that, no?) it might be helpful for others looking for a better 50/1.4.
