Corrected my post - the editor got confused it seems.
Well, at least the focus clutch thingy is gone and it has a new AF motor. But yes, it is silly just to extend the barrel to fit a mirrorless camera.
That design is how old? 15y?

Well, the new Samyang MF 14mm Z and 85mm Z aren't exactly dedicated designs.
