Forums > Back > So Canon's video saga continues
#11
Well, the conclusion of this time is that video in a conventional, non-actively cooled full-frame photo body remains an afterthought.

If Panasonic wasn't stupid they would release the S1H II with PD-AF - and they'd own the segment for years to come. It would also boost L-mount into relevance. But I doubt that they'll be so smart.

Using the: "Canon R5 & R6: Will They Stream? // Live Streaming & Overheating Test" .... questions and answers from viewers ........ by Gerald Undone ......
........ (ie. a detailed nerd video)

Using a line out to an external video recorder from the R6 and R5...... cameras are not recording ..... giving far greater recording times before overheating occurs

For those who want to know all the details and factors ...... including many comparisons with various other video cameras.....

...... very long video ...... exclusively for hyper nerds !! .....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGdY6TgNOt0

Edit and btw ...... Max Yuriev 4K 60Fps test was also done by Gerald Undone holding the camera ..... it ran for two hours without even showing the overheating symbol ....... so the sole instance of the A7SIII overheating was even more unlikely in the real world ......

But it's true! I never use the Con Man Mode.

Oops, I mean Video Mode!

Dpreview just wrote an article on the topic: "Canon EOS R5 and R6 overheating claims tested: cameras work as promised - but that's not enough"
https://www.dpreview.com/articles/8653213690/test-results-canon-eos-r5-and-r6-work-as-promised-thats-not-enough

From the article:

After extensive testing of both cameras, our conclusions with regards internal recording are:
- Both the EOS R5 and R6 appear capable of working as promised
- Lack of dependability makes them a poor choice for much professional video work
[...]
Not only does this make R5 a poor fit for many professional video shoots, it also means that you can't depend on the cameras when shooting video alongside stills at, say, a wedding, which is a situation that the EOS R5 clearly is intended for.

As usual Canon trying to avoid cannibalizing sales of cine line....
For weddings why it wouldn't work ?? they are usually shot in FHD where it hasn't any problem... and even 4K 30fps is not limited by heat unless you use oversampling

Neither is 4K 60, when not oversampled.

Ok, it is possible to shoot fro 4 hours continuously in HQ 4K 60 mode, under the proviso you record externally and remove the memory cards from the camera.

Rather boring Youtube video, but Gerald Undone also reacted, which is quite interesting. His limit for video with regard to approval is 3 hours continuous shooting.

There also is this interesting video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0x9Vdckfg comparing a RED and EOS R5 8K Smile.

And finally, here is Gordon Laing reviewing the camera for stills photography: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT5GeNH3Ip0&feature=youtu.be

Still not clear why anyone would shoot non-slow motion video at 60FPS.... Let alone 4K at all or 8K. Funny stuff.

Thanks for the actual info, Wim. All the nonsense that gets posted and repeated is quite amazing.

I think the reason ..... why video-graphers want to shoot video 4K video at 60 Fps as a normal replay speed cannot be answered here is because we are not in the video industry .......

..... which is why the question needs to be asked to video-graphers themselves ...... you never know perhaps they have a perfectly good reason ..... like some of them prefer it for example .. (God forbid ??)

..... this question needs to be answered elsewhere ..... so "those still not clear" can find out for themselves !!
