It makes sense. It seems Sony doesn't need them any longer — and perhaps it mostly needed them at the beginning for marketing purposes.

To be fair - the Zeiss partnership is ages old. My first camera in 2001 was a Sony point-and-shoot with a "Zeiss" lens (it was horrible either way but hey, one has to start somewhere).
