A modern vintage lens.

Very cool depth-of-field indicator

I am of the opinion that these holes look silly (and they're asymmetrical...?) But then again, I've never seriously used full MF lenses, so I guess any little bit would help there.

Some context: Thypoch isn't exactly a new manufacturer, it's a brand name used by Shenzhen Xuchi Optics Technology Co., Ltd, a subsidiary / sister company (unclear) of Shenzhen Dongzheng Optical Technology Co., Ltd aka DZO aka Dongzheng Optics aka DZOptics aka DZOFILM.

DZO specialises in advanced optics for professional use (detection, security, medical, military, scientific research, lasers, lighting, opto-communications, etc.). They also manufacture cinema equipment, including lenses. They used to make photographic lenses. Do you remember their Kerlee 35mm f/1.2?

The fact that Thypoch is a new brand launched by DZO was confirmed to me by the representative who manned the Thypoch stand at the Salon de la Photo in Paris in October 2023. The man's title on his business card was European Marketing Specialist and, according to his telephone number, he was based in China.

Interesting business analysis there.

While the Simeras have some advanced optical elements, a better characterization would be "modern vintage style" - especially for the 35mm f/1.4 (coming next).
The mechanical quality is superb. It's a pity there's no basic electronic coupling. Being fully manual, it's inevitable that they are on the exotic side.
