...Nikon confirmed I need to send it to their service centre.

Got my D7000 back from Nikon today, with clean sensor and firmware update (I'd done that - or thought I had)

Went out this afternoon with camera, 16-85 and Tamron 70-300 USD... think I got a few nice pics

But... I'm glad you've been having better experience with Tamron service recently, Markus, 'cos the autofocus packed in after about half an hour. Smells like the US drive has burned-out...! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

I don't think I did anything to damage it. The instructions say the focus ring turns when autofocusing (so don't prevent it moving...), but I'm not sure this one ever did move. Of course, I can't check that now!

Hey ho, another package to send off. Well, there's a saying here that these things come in threes... I'm getting my car back from repairer tomorrow (accident - now that WAS my fault) so maybe I won't have the laptop go wrong as well..! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

I'll let you know how I get on with Tamron.

Sorry to hear that, Ian.

I was sure, but just checked nonetheless: the focus ring does not move during AF.

Thanks, Markus.

At least I know I didn't damage the drive by holding the focus ring.

I was sorry to hear about your experiences with Tokina, too.

I bought a new Tamron 70-300 USD (for Canon) a few weeks ago, and the USD failed the day after I got the lens, without obvious reasons. Returned the lens, got a new one, and this seems to work OK. Until now, at least. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Huh' /> Anyway, good to know that there is a 5-year extended warranty on the lens (and the US Drive <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />).

Cheers,

Herbert
