Maybe not so strange after all <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Not at all, at least to me ... I'm currently exploring the world of close-ups with 20mm on FX <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> It's fun ... and yes, it's the Sigma 20/1.8, in case you wonder.

Hi Klaus,
Sorry you lost me. Why do you take the release of an APS-C DSLR lens as a sign that they shift resources into mirrorless? I took it the opposite way.

The rumor mill suggested several high end FX lenses which didn't pop up ... so far at least.
IMHO it has been comparatively silent on the Nikon and Canon side lately. Possibly a side effect of the Tsunami but I feel there's more about it.

Hmm.. Canon had its share of new announcements/releases last year (revamp of the big tele range, 8-15mm fisheye zoom, 70-300 L), same amount of new lenses as any year really...
Nikon has been very busy too (85mm f1.4, 35mm f1.4, 24mm f1.4, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8 DX, now 40mm DX macro)... so not sure there is anything out of the ordinary, really. Of course, the tsunami has had an impact in schedules, but I expect new announcements around september, like every year?

Ah, I envy you. When I am in a position to also have a FF camera, I will surely also get a 20mm (either that Sigma or the Voigtlander). And the Canon 24mm f2.8. Yes, for wide angle close ups <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />.

Ah yes, interesting point... the D3100 is quite a bit more compact than the D90. Should be a very portable setup <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />.
I am using my Canon EF 35mm f2 with 12mm extension tube at the moment, which brings it to about 1:2. That Tokina was introduced just after I got that lens. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
That Tokina will find itself in my collection at some point, looking forward to the review.

I had a look at Nikon DSLR at the weekend. Compared to my Olympus Pen they are all large. If you attach a lens the size differences between the bodies are negligible. The D7000 has a very nice shutter sound. The D5100 is ok. Canons (e.g. D60) are awful in comparison.

Compared to the Pentax Q all DSLRs are large too. However, the size difference between a D3100 and D90 is real and big enough to matter. No lens will make the difference in height/width smaller either. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

Yep, they're obviously still very serious about DX.
Quote:In canon land everything was clear since the beging of dSLR era. “One day everything will be FFâ€
While in Nikon camp was some type of swing dance between DX->FX->DX and whatever will be the new rumored format.
At the end of the day who cares. Looking from today point they both ware wrong. FF is still not mainstream today.
BTW: How big is the market share of FF today? What are the FF forecasts for near future?
Looking at the small and affordable DX lenses they release, I guess it's safe to assume now that a mirrorless solution from Nikon will indeed use a much smaller sensor than APS-C.

These are all low volume, high-end japanese-made lenses. No consumer products (which are manufactured in other parts of Asia).

But it is the design of lenses which limits the number of lenses introduced each year, not so much the production sites (if they are not tsunamied). But you are right, in that since the 55-250mm introduction there has been no really new low end introduction, where Nikon came with the 85mm f3.5 DX VR Micro, now the 40mm DX micro, Sony with the 30mm DT macro and 85mm f2.8 portait lens.
On a side note, Canon has a new 35mm f2.8 macro design up for patenting, an 1:2 macro (and a new 50mm f2.8 1:1 macro, and TS-E 90mm f2.8 1:2 macro).
Nikon has a design for a 18mm f3.5 DX lens, and a 17mm f4 PC...
