Tried it in the past and never got on with it... still, that was a long time ago.



In a quick look at the new version, not impressed with it at all. Speed isn't that bad. I normally use DxO which is no speed demon either. The part that most unimpressed me about RT3 is the noise characteristic. It is very last-generation and looks very ugly and the NR doesn't make up for it. Not competitive in that respect and as such I don't think I'll be touching it again until, perhaps not until version 4...



Edit: I thought I should also also play with inherently low noise images too, to see what it could do. Not bad I suppose. But that doesn't really suit my shooting style.

Well, detail is in the luminance, colour is in the chrominance. You can separate those, and mix them.



Two easy ways:



1. Convert in both RAW converters, open both in PS. Copy the Silkypix one, copy onto the RT one (now you have two layers). Change the layer "mode" for the layer with the silkypix version from "normal" to "color".

Now you should have the detail of the RT version, with the colour from Silkypix.



2. Convert both and open both in PS, Change to Image/Mode.../Lab mode (for both images). Copy from the silkypix version the a-channel to the RT version a-channel, and the b-channel from the silkypix version to the b-channel from the RT version.

Or, if you prefer, the Lightness channel from the RT version to the lightness channel from the silkypix version.

You now should have a version with the detail from RT and the colour from Silkypix.
