Best photo locations in Athens, Greece? Also, any underwater location?
#1
What are the best photo locations in and around Athens, Greece? I will be shooting a wedding there and I would like to take some cool photos with the bride and groom!

Have you ever been there? What location was you favorite? Do you have any photos you can show us?

Also, any great underwater photo location close to Athens? Any islands which is easy to get to? I would love to have crystal clear water... I would like to take the couple underwater and make some cool underwater portraits....

Thanks so much!

I can't help you but I think you are going to get some "interesting" suggestions.

Oh, take plenty of cash with you, just in case aunty Merkel changes her mind and decides to keep all those € in Germany.

well, how about using google maps, sat view, and images, streetview to get some some overview of the place.

But, having said that, how mobile is the wedding couple/party? i.e. do the locations have to be accessible by car, or is walking also an option? The reason I am saying this, is there are two hills, a smaller one, just across from the Acropolis, Philopappos Hill, where you could get nice view of the Acropolis in the background. Then there is Mount Lycabettus, which gives a big view over the city, for example for a sunset. The Acropolis is though quite far away in the town, so won't be that obvious in a picture. Anyway, for both spots you should get lots of samples from the usual web sites. Otherwise, National Gardens and old Olympic stadium across from it might provide some backdrops. The narrow streets in the old part of town on the north slope of the Acropolis can provide some scenic backdrops. Shooting in the Acropolis itself, it's probably quite crowded.

As to permits, no idea, although some of these places are public places, so I suspect it should not be an issue.

The old "original"part of Athens for sure, "Plaka". Both the pre 20th century town and the ancient artefacts in/near (ncluding the Acropolis[/size]

) it are perfect for your shoot.

plaka athens

Lykavittos Hill gives a great 360 degree view of Athens, which may give nice backdrops both day and night.

Acropolis, with the Parthenon, in front, with Lykavittos Hill in the background.

Can't recommend on islands, as I have no idea about the time you have available and ferry schedules and durations.

Ah, yes, Plaka is the name of the old town.

As to the second picture, Lycabettus hill is the one on the right in the background, the image was taken from Philopappos

Update. I am here in Greece. They are really strict at Acropolis. I was there yesterday evening. You can only take photos as a "tourist". They mean it! Smile I don't think it will work out there...

Not surprised. But what about Philopappos hill? It's in a public park across from Acropolis. Many people overlook that place as one has to do a bit of walking.
