That will dry the tears a D850 will have caused in the eyes of Sony photogs. 

 

Great features: Although only up to ISO 3200 (why?), 10fps (no extra grip needed), Dual slots (finally),  improved AF and USB 3.1 At $ 3200.- a bargain. I could scratch some "but it has not that or this gimmick" and everybody could reply, yes, but it's a lot lighter than D850, not to mention it' doesn't need a grip and is still faster.

Plus the new Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS lens which is the smallest in class and the coming 400mm f2.8 for wildlife aficionados.

Sony is indeed on a roll.

The system is maturing and becoming very, very attractive.

3200 $ is better than Î±9 ($4500, in Switzerland CHF 5700.- :blink: )

Also just realized that this is one of the cheapest FF cameras Sony has released in the past 3 years. Sony just doesn't want to update A7II.

Although with the Canon one can debate if one should not also count the extra flange distance, somehow.

It seems they took a new logic this time.

In the past it was like never-ending more megapixels with the same body.

This time, they kept the 42MP sensor and changed almost everything around it: 2x faster AF chip, 3x larger buffer, better EVF, UHS-II SD card, USB 3.1, 2x larger battery etc...

Not sure it it's a sign of sensor maturity or the urgency to react to the D850.

This night I saw a 7rII for the same price as the mark III version - okay, in a shopping window, they had not much time to react on this, but how do the dealers act if they still haven't sold all 7r II with all their "downsides" (real or imagined) and the successor is already announced for roughly the same price?

It's odd that only the R
version is outed at this point, before the "straight" A7. But they'll get to this inevitably.
