Good but not great:

Hmm... I compared the results you got with this and the 24/1.4L II and this new unit only really trails the L by about one stop. No mean feat since you could buy all the new EF triplets for the price of a single 24L. But I chose the latter and gave it a good workout at a post-apocalypse party last weekend. Smile Pity that I had to shoot wide open most of the time so many of the social shots turned out with greatly deficient DOF, but the IS in the 2.8 wouldn't have saved me because shutter speed was already borderline at f/1.4 and I was running out of usable ISO as well.

The 28/2.8 IS looks better than its 24 brother, but then, the same was true when comparing the old 24/28 pair, per SLRGear.com reviews.

FYI - I revisited the distortion image using a different Imatest version. Makes more sense now.
