Yippieh, a new wide angle for Zeiss manual focus fans.

All 14 of 'em...

For those discerning photographers who found the Canon EF 35mm f1.4 L USM II already over the top with its 14 elements and 750 grams. The all new Zeiss Milvus 25mm f1.4, with 15 elements and 1220 grams.

Yes it's big and pricey but the sharpness goes through the roof if we believe the review (the only one I've stumbled upon so far):

I wonder if it means it's going to be as good as the Otus 28mm... but 3mm wider (useful) and half(-ish) the price?

Me, I'd get a Sigma if I had been starting from scratch. As it stands, I have the Canon L and I think I'm set with this range.

2700.- is not half the price, but still peanuts compared to an Otus.

Very soon these lenses will arrive in the 2nd hand shelves when people with big pockets and bad eyesight fid out it's not that easy to focus those monsters, not to mention handheld.

Zeiss seems to be going for a new high with every new lens they release. Very first Loxia and Batis lenses were rather farily priced, look at them now. And this? 2700$? Good luck to everyone who wants to get their hands on one.

Low volume, high, big element count = high price. The much higher volume Canon 35mm f1.4 II (less wide) costs $1800.
