A few interesting lines in the "update":

 • Standard F-mount
 • Pentaprism viewfinder (meaning the camera will not be mirrorless)
 • Nikon calls it a "hybrid" camera - not sure what exactly they mean with that

Anyone care to speculate what that means? If not a conventional DSLR, how about a (possibly) fixed mirror configuration, but with the mirrored image going to OVF. Possibly another semi-transparrent mirror to allow information overlay like the X100 & friends. Main sensor could do on-sensor phase AF as well as contrast.

The other configuration would be a copy of SLT which wouldn't be so interesting...

dA Canon 7D2, 7D, 5D2, 600D, 450D, 300D IR modified, 1D, EF-S 10-18, 15-85, EF 35/2, 85/1.8, 135/2, 70-300L, 100-400L, MP-E65, Zeiss 2/50, Sigma 150 macro, 120-300/2.8, Samyang 8mm fisheye, Olympus E-P1, Panasonic 20/1.7, Sony HX9V, Fuji X100.

Maybe a dslr-type OVF/EVF hybrid? Then the mirror needs be rised up in the EVF mode. If so, then I think it's a brilliant idea, but I hope the CDAF will be much faster then that of a typical dslr (or there may even be PDAF sensors on the sensor).

According to update hybrid might refer, "The camera will meter even with non-AI lenses down to full aperture"

....aaah they've seen the light at last then....thru an ovf no doubt.... but will they be using the new Canon sensors for that quality natural look (...and focus :-) too

They could also make use of the pre-AI coupling forks. _That_ would be retro.

I remember Nikon filed a patent for a hybrid viewfinder a few years ago.
