Either people don't understand what I'm saying or I am in fact just being plain difficult.
The lens was sent to Nikon Slovenia and it came back with the same problem and I was charged 50 euros.
Ljubljana is 80KM from here, and so I have now made 2x160 km trips just to get the lens sent to Germany.
When it comes back I need to make another 160km drive to get the lens back to Studor.
The lens is being be sent back with the original problem. No optical alignment was done.
No amount to tests - as suggested above - is going to get the lens to be sharp in the center.
If Nikon had told me from the start that I have a bad copy and that there is nothing they can do, then I could live with it.
So, whilst we can all agree that bad samples exist I find it hard to accept that this lens meets Nikon's high standards.
