Am I being difficult

Either people don't understand what I'm saying or I am in fact just being plain difficult.

[...]

No amount to tests - as suggested above - is going to get the lens to be sharp in the center.

Maybe you don't understand what you are saying?

Because you keep insisting that the lens has an optical problem. But your supporting examples show that the lens is out-of-focus at the desired subject but clearly is sharper behind the subject (which empirically shows that the image has a focusing problem).

Since it's a focusing problem, then it's either an AF problem and therefore a problem of the body+lens system (both affect AF together) or a manual focus problem and a problem of the operator.

And you're being difficult:

Since 18 posts in, you still avoid answering the questions about how you set up the focus for your example shots. Then, after receiving very basic and simple and correct advice how to correctly set up the test to check how to isolate sharpness vs. focus problems, you reject that advice and insist that a focus-test will never show if sharp the lens is (or not).

If it is an AF problem, then the next step would be to do a controlled AF test to confirm this...but no point offering any suggestion here since you will reject any testing (otherwise just google "autofocus test chart" to learn how to this (which also brings up plenty results for Nikon AF problems for the D800)).

As mentioned already, it's most likely an autofocus problem and means that both your lenses and bodies need to go into the service center together to get autofocus adjustments at the same time (since both can affect AF accuracy).

It's a lot easier to receive the service you need when you can accurately describe the problem because you found out exactly what the problem is through proper analysis. Your subjective analysis of the problem seems to be incorrect and the source of your dissatisfaction with the service.

Your original question:

And more importantly, do you think that there is a problem with my lens, or am I just being difficult?

See above!
