Fujifilm X100s & X20
#1
focus peaking

split image focusing

etc...

The X100s is an interesting little beast as I'm scratching my head to replace the 20mm setup from which I can't accept the terribly low focus speed anymore on the OMD (panaleica 25 is too long, oly's 17 f1.8 is apparently a let down, VL lenses are too expensive & MF,...).

User interface remains a question mark after having tried a colleague's x100. I was a bit rebutted by the quirky interface, to say the least.

Still only a leak atm :

Fuji needs to get ontop of the raw converter issues. They need to get good support into the likes of ACR, LR and Aperture before these cameras will fly.

I was toying with an X10 for some time. A key reason for no camera here yet is no support in Aperture for it. Judging from this, the X10 being superseeded I doubt there ever will be <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> I like the ideas behind the x10's sensor - but it seems it didn't fly.

So far the x100 was the exception here - standard bayer sensor. Now with the x100s that one is also in the not-so-useful-raw file league. I hope Fuji gets their act together here.

By the way, the X-E1 made it into my "ugly" camera book. Really ugly - and that from a RF-dyehard. The designer deserves the sack.

Well, Fuji will get to it. They can't have 4 models (3 aps-c & 1 digicam) featuring X-Trans tech and just watch people complain. In the meantime, you can shoot jpeg+raw ;-)

The X-Pro 1 isn't particularly sexy either, IMHO. X100 is my fav fuji design so far.

Watch that EVF in the X100s, I'd suspect the new EPSON display as it's not an OLED.

Eager to do a side by side OLED vs LCD at same resolution one day. Photokina memories tell me LCD was more pleasant.

Soon in your new favorite Olympus Camera too ;-)

EDIT : Thinking twice, I don't think Fuji would take another EVF than the one in the X-E1, which is probably an OLED.

CaptureOne 7 will support the Fuji sensors by the end of the month it seems.

Hi,

Capture One support for the x-trans sensor seems out. dpreview has a comparison to ACR and in camera JPEG:

This is a beginning - perhaps one could call it a "beta". Could do with some further tuning in the future.

I just had a look at CaptureOne 7.0.2 (with X-E1 support now).

The results resemble the good ol' RawShooter I'd say. Thus a bit oversharpened (without the normally associated halos).

I'll second that. After I got the X10 and struggled with the Silky Pix, I've changed the output setting to EXR - JPEG. The camera's own converter works very well and the jpegs are quite ok. The only thing with AutoEXR is that the shutter lag in some cases can be annoying.

The new X100s comes with the innovative manual focus assistance. That's good actually, but such a camera with a fixed lens and with that much price does not sound reasonable to me. Waiting for the next XE1 version with the upgrades on X100s could be a better idea...

Maybe the problem with X-trans sensors is not limited to shooting RAW and RAW conversion.

I tend to believe the voices saying that even with in-camera JPEG the smearing does appear, just to a lesser extent.

There is an interesting article from a competent person here:

http://digilloyd.com/blog/2012/20121206_...facts.html

"This issue is present via ACR, SilkyPix and JPEG. SilkyPix and JPEG blur the image so much that the evidence is less obvious, but it is still there."

Make sure you also read the readers' comments. Very interesting indeed.

There is no smearing in C1.
